Student Leadership

Cultivating student leaders is an essential part of an Oakcrest education. We believe that leadership is for everyone, and we provide the opportunities and support for each young woman to reach her potential as a leader through living a spirit of service, stewardship, and courage.

Executive Student Council

Student Council is an important leadership group at Oakcrest. Both the Middle School and the Upper School Student Councils consist of class officers. The Upper School Student Council also includes the Executive Officers, who are elected by the student body and whose job it is to oversee and run many of the activities that promote school spirit, from Sister Family activities to all-school service initiatives and pep rallies.

Athletic Achievements

We’re proud of our student-athletes, who compete on 22 different teams in 10 different sports. Growing in leadership is key for our student-athletes. Athletes practice leadership in the way they respond to wins and losses, in how they shore up and help teammates who are struggling, and in their communication with each other, especially through encouragement. All student-athletes, not just the team captains, are expected to be leaders. Our end of season sports awards not only recognize players' technical skills, but also honor students who have exhibited outstanding leadership and sportsmanship.

Service Initiatives Program

At Oakcrest we want our students to see service as a way of life. The Service Initiatives Program is comprised of thirteen student service coordinators who organize and manage eleven different monthly service projects. Since participation in SIP is voluntary, members take part in its service activities outside of school hours. SIP helps student volunteers realize that service done locally is just as valid as the services offered by large companies and worldwide programs.

Service Requirements

Middle School girls are required to provide a minimum of 15 hours of service each year to their families, friends and/or neighbors. A maximum of 5 of the 15 hours required may also be fulfilled by serving their community at large.

Upper School girls are required to provide a minimum of 20 hours of service in grade 9 and a minimum of 25 hours in grades 10 through 12. Upper School students are encouraged to turn outside of their homes to complete at least 5 hours in service to the poor and needy, and up to 10 hours serving the greater community. Upper School students should also complete at least 10 hours of service for their immediate and extended families.

Honor Societies

Students have the opportunity to pursue their academic interests and serve by becoming members of Oakcrest's honor societies. Available honor societies are:

Latin Honor Society

Visual and Performing Arts

The arts are an important part of an Oakcrest education. There are a variety of ways to exercise leadership in the visual and performing arts at Oakcrest, whether it's leading off-stage in the tech booth and front of house or being a student conductor for orchestra.
