Parents Support Resources

Since its founding in 1976, parent partnership has been at the heart of the mission and philosophy of Oakcrest School. In a spirit of friendship and mutual trust, Oakcrest collaborates with parents in helping their daughters to be young women of intellect, faith, and virtue.

When the school and parents are united in this noble mission, we are best able to achieve the common goal of educating young women of character - girls who thrive at Oakcrest, in college, and beyond.

In pursuit of this mission, Oakcrest wants to offer you, parents, a hub of resources and support in the education of your daughters. Check this page for regularly updated book reviews, links of interest, parent speaker events, and more.

Self-Esteem Without Selfishness: Increasing Our Capacity for Love

In this thoughtful work, Fr. Esparza—a physician and philosopher—explores how the quality of our relationship with ourselves shapes every other relationship in our lives. He introduces the idea of “humble self-esteem”: embracing our imperfections while recognizing our dignity as children of God.

Far from promoting self-centeredness, this kind of self-love helps us approach both our own limitations and others’ with patience, understanding, and peace. Ultimately, true growth in love begins with discovering the merciful love of God.

Article: "Overcoming Psychological Wounds"

This article reminds us how often childhood emotional injuries—such as rejection, humiliation, or neglect—leave silent marks that continue to shape behavior, self-esteem, and relationships well into adolescence. Understanding these wounds helps us support our daughters who may be struggling in ways that aren’t visible, whether in the classroom, on the field, or at home. It also offers hope through the concept of resilience—showing that with awareness, compassion, and nurturing relationships, those wounds can be acknowledged, transformed, and overcome.

Article: "The Road Where We Meet Jesus"

On October 6, 2025, Assistant Chaplain Fr. Jaime Hernández preached a homily to the student body celebrating the Feast of the Canonization of St. Josemaría Escrivá. Fr. Jaime’s reflection reminds us that our daughters truly are capable of holiness and that we can invite them into an awareness of Christ's unique call for them, in their school rooms, their dining room table, or in their friend groups. We can join them in this discernment, asking "what's your road to Jericho?"
