Prepping for the AP Art History exam at The Met

For visual art teacher and Oakcrest interior designer Ms. Victoria Bigliano’s AP Art History course, the AP exam is right around the corner. In the midst of finalizing preparations for the upcoming exam, the class traveled to New York City to explore The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Roaming through the museum through the Ancient Greek and Rome exhibits, the class looked for objects and artwork that they had been studying, as well as encountered numerous additional ones, as Ms. Bigliano led them through discussions. Through the Egyptian, American, and European wings, the class continued to study beautiful works as they saw their textbook come to life.

Several of the students found themselves playing a game of “Identify the Artist” as they walked into each room as preparation on the identification aspect of the AP exam. The discussions that they had surrounding various time periods, art techniques, and other topics allowed them to prepare for other parts of the exam that will ask them to make comparisons and provide analysis.

“The trip was definitely a review in the sense of practicing their ability to identify and relate works of art that they had perhaps never known before but could now understand,” Ms. Bigliano said. “But it also offered interesting comparisons which they require on the AP exam, and the museum provided that, helping reinforce many of the learning prompts from the class and allowing the students to experience and discuss.”
