Sophomore places second in local ESU Shakespeare Monologue Competition

Lorali O. ‘25 came in second place at the English-Speaking Union (ESU) Washington, D.C. branch’s Shakespeare Monologue Competition with her performances of Lady Macbeth from Macbeth and “Sonnet 106”. The local Washington, D.C. branch competition was held at Madeira School on February 28, bringing together students representing 10 area schools.

The ESU National Shakespeare Competition is an annual educational program for high school students across the country who compete at the school, community, and national level. In 2023, the competition is celebrating its 40th year.

In December, Oakcrest held its annual Shakespeare Competition, where students in both Middle School and Upper School performed a Shakespearean monologue alongside a sonnet. The winner then advanced to the local ESU competition.
