Parents Support Resources

Since its founding in 1976, parent partnership has been at the heart of the mission and philosophy of Oakcrest School. In a spirit of friendship and mutual trust, Oakcrest collaborates with parents in helping their daughters to be young women of intellect, faith, and virtue.

When the school and parents are united in this noble mission, we are best able to achieve the common goal of educating young women of character - girls who thrive at Oakcrest, in college, and beyond.

In pursuit of this mission, Oakcrest wants to offer you, parents, a hub of resources and support in the education of your daughters. Check this page for regularly updated book reviews, links of interest, parent speaker events, and more.

Anxious Kids, Anxious Parents

Children are increasingly anxious, stressed out and overly worried. Part of that has to do with increased pressures to excel in school, sports and extracurricular activities. But part of it has a lot to do with us parents.

As parents we know it is not our job to stop or prevent worries from showing up: they appear through all stages of life for all of us.
Research shows that anxious children can learn patterns of worry from parents who are only trying to help.

This book helps find strategies for us as parents to deal with our own worries and anxieties, so we can better teach our children ways of managing their own concerns and fears.

"Happiness Happens: Bringing More of It into Our Daily Lives" with Ester and Arthur Brooks

Saturday, March 29, 7:00pm

To guide us in learning how to live that joy here and now, Oakcrest welcomed two incredible speakers, a husband and wife duo: Dr. Arthur Brooks—a Harvard professor, Ph.D., bestselling author, and renowned social scientist—and Mrs. Ester Munt Brooks—a Catholic educator and speaker with a passion for helping people deepen their faith and live it intentionally.

Together, they explore the different aspects of happiness and how we can create it in our everyday lives. This talk is inspired by a famous insight from St. Josemaría Escriva, who wrote, “I am every day more convinced that happiness in heaven is for those who know how to be happy on earth.”
