Oakcrest celebrates Homecoming and Founder's Day Weekend

Oakcrest celebrated Homecoming Weekend September 16 and September 17 with a variety of events and gatherings for alumnae, alumnae parents, students, families, faculty and staff.

The weekend began with an alumnae/faculty and staff vs. Upper School student soccer game on Friday, September 16. Alumnae, faculty, and staff joined forces to compete in a friendly game of soccer against Upper School students, with a crowd of students and families cheering on the sidelines. The game ended with a tie 1-1.

Following the soccer game, alumnae parents enjoyed a reception in the Oakcrest Library. Head of School Dr. Mary T. Ortiz shared a reflection on the history of the school and an update on the plans for the coming school year.

On the following day alumnae Class Captains gathered for breakfast with Dr. Ortiz and Alumnae Relations Coordinator Maritere (Gramatges ’91) Crum and later were joined by fellow alumnae classmates for a luncheon.

Homecoming Weekend culminated on Saturday afternoon with the annual Founder’s Day Mass, which commemorates the first Mass celebrated at Oakcrest on September 15, 1976. The Mass was celebrated by Chaplain Fr. Gerry Kolf, who returned to Oakcrest this August, after serving as chaplain from 2013 to 2016. Oakcrest students and their families enjoyed a BBQ dinner following the Mass.

The Class reunion cocktail party honoring the milestone graduation years took place in the Oakcrest Library during the Founder’s Day dinner. Classes celebrating reunion years (5, 10, 20, and 25 years) received distinct gifts for their anniversary – an alumnae mug, a wine tumbler, a watercolor print of Oakcrest School, and a sterling silver Oakcrest charm. The Class of 2012, who celebrated their 10 year reunion, was the class with the most alumnae in attendance.
