Oakcrest Golf Team Headed to State Championship

The Oakcrest Varsity golf team is advancing to the VISAA Division II State Championship in Williamsburg, Virginia on Monday, May 17. Oakcrest is the first ever all-girls team to qualify for states.

Team members Amelia Cho ‘24, Olivia Vigilante ‘23, Grace Colangelo ‘22, Katiebelle Thompson ‘21, and Kyla O'Byrne '23 will compete at states. The team cemented its undefeated season with a 184-200 victory over St. John Paul the Great High School last week, bringing its record to 7-0. The Chargers are ranked fifth in the VISAA Division II Standings, and the team has competed in matches against both boys and girls throughout the spring. This will be the first time in the history of Oakcrest School that the golf team competes at the state championship.

Grace Colangelo, who has been playing golf at Oakcrest for three years, is excited about this important step forward for the team. “I’ve seen a lot of improvement in my game because of the help I get from Coach Smith and my teammates during practice,” she says. “I think part of our team’s success comes from our positive attitude and our team bond. We’re always cheering each other on and trying to help our teammates on the course.”
