Oakcrest Volleyball Program Grows

Oakcrest’s volleyball program is experiencing strong growth and exciting new opportunities this year.

This fall, Oakcrest has added a Middle School team in addition to its Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. And for the first time ever, the Chargers will get the chance to play in the week long National Christian School Athletic Association (NCSAA) Championship Tournament at Cedarville University, Ohio in October, and they will also be eligible for the VISAA State tournament.

Sarah Robertson, Oakcrest’s new Assistant Athletic Director and head coach of the Junior Varsity team, has high hopes for the season and is thrilled that Middle School students now have their own team.

“It is exciting to see all the young talent coming out to play,” says Coach Robertson. “The younger they are, the more they will learn and continue to help the program as they get older and better.”

Coach Robertson’s passion for volleyball goes back to her high school years, during which she was named FACA Volleyball Player of the Year for the State of Florida three years in a row in the district 5A. She also made All-County first team all four years and was named to the FACA All-Star Volleyball Team in 2015.

Coach Robertson looks forward to a great season, noting both the strong technical skills and excellent attitude of the athletes on all three teams. She points to Oakies’ trademark enthusiasm, competitive spirit, and excellent sportsmanship. These qualities, she says, make her confident that Oakcrest’s volleyball players will continue to improve and grow with each game.

Head Varsity Volleyball Coach Annie Smith, who has coached volleyball at Oakcrest for the past three years, agrees. “This year we have a great team that has a really good skill set and an amazing attitude!” she says.
