Oakcrest Prepares for 2021 March for Life

Oakcrest is proud to once more be participating in the annual National March for Life, which will take place on Friday, January 29.

Although the March will be virtual this year due to the pandemic, the entire school will honor its tradition of closing for the day so that Oakcrest students, faculty and staff can participate virtually with their families.

Since its founding in 1976, the school has attended the March for Life. Last year Oakcrest was chosen to lead the March, carrying the official banner. Respect Life Club president Catalina Scheider Galiñanes (‘21) also spoke at the pre-March rally on the National Mall last year. This year, she was featured in the National March for Life Theme announcement video. The theme of this year’s March for Life is “Together Strong: Life Unites!” Members of Oakcrest’s Respect Life Club have been leading the school in preparing for the March and supporting the culture of life. The club held a special Common Homeroom suggesting ways that students can help promote the pro-life cause. They also led the school in a Rosary for the end of abortion.

“Although we are unable to March in person this year, we must remember that life is a gift from God that unites each human person,” says Catalina. “We are all made in the image and likeness of God—and we must defend the most fundamental human liberty of life! In addition to attending the March virtually, we can all encourage a culture of life in our daily activities and within our families and parishes. Being pro-life means remembering the overlooked and marginalized. We can reach out to nursing homes to send letters of kindness and encouragement to their residents. We can offer to help babysit for a neighbor who may be overwhelmed. Above all else, we have to continually pray for our nation and her leaders, and for the legal protection of every human life, from conception until natural death.”
