Smithsonian Highlights Collaboration with Oakcrest Chorus

The Smithsonian Center for Folk Life & Cultural Heritage recently highlighted its collaboration with Oakcrest’s Concert Chorus on a project to promote America’s rich cultural heritage of folk music among young people.

Oakcrest was asked to help launch this new project through Smithsonian Folkways Recordings last fall. In November, the chorus recorded a music video with the Smithsonian that will be used to challenge other schools around the nation to create their own videos. Students Heidi and Zoe Burke and Ana Sofia Johnson, both composers and guitarists, contributed their musical talents as well. Students recorded “This Land is Your Land" by Woody Guthrie and "Hard Times Come Again No More" by Stephen Foster.

The video has officially been released, and the full story behind the project can be read here
