Varsity Basketball Player Named to All State Team

Varsity Basketball team member Elisabeth Dunch (‘22) has been selected for the VISAA Girls Basketball All State Second Team.

This is a historic accomplishment for the Chargers and tops off a successful year for the Varsity Basketball team.

Dunch scored 386 points this season, which puts her at number five on the all time career list at Oakcrest. She made 136 rebounds, 24 assists, and 60 steals, and was named to the all tournament team at the National Christian School Athletic Association (NCSAA) Basketball Championship. She also received the Oakcrest Varsity Basketball Offensive Player of the Year award. The Varsity team finished the 2019-2020 season by being seeded #9 in the VISAA state poll and advancing to the Virginia state tournament. They went on in the post-season to take second at the NCSAA Basketball Championship in Ohio on March 8th.

“Elisabeth is a key player both offensively and defensively on our team,” says Varsity Basketball head coach Annie Smith. “She works very hard and is a very unselfish player.”

Athletics is an essential part of the Oakcrest experience. Over 85% of students participate on a sports team or in a fitness class offered by the athletic department. Oakcrest offers several levels of each sport—Basketball, Cross Country, Golf, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Track & Field and Volleyball—which allows athletes of all abilities to compete in the program. Oakcrest is an active member of the Virginia Independent School Athletic Association (VISAA), which provides all varsity teams with the opportunity to compete at the state championship level.
