Concert Chorus to Be Featured on Smithsonian Folkways

Oakcrest’s Concert Chorus has been selected to help launch a new project through Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, with the goal of promoting America’s rich cultural heritage of American folk music among young people.
The Chorus will record a music video with the Smithsonian on November 23 that will be used to challenge other schools around the nation to create their own videos. Students Heidi and Zoe Burke and Ana Sofia Johnson, both composers and guitarists, will contribute their musical talents as well. Students will record “This Land is Your Land" by Woody Guthrie and "Hard Times Come Again No More" by Stephen Foster.

“We are very excited and honored to have been chosen to lead this important educational project,” says Anne Miller, Oakcrest Music Master Teacher and Choral Director.

Smithsonian Folkways Recordings is the nonprofit record label of the Smithsonian Institution. Its mission to document “people's music,” spoken word, instruction, and sounds from around the world.
