Middle School

A time of wonder, discovery, and growth — where every girl finds her voice.

Middle School is a time of wonder, discovery, and growth. At Oakcrest, girls are encouraged to ask questions, use their imaginations, and delight in learning as they build the habits that will serve them for years to come. Rooted in a liberal arts education and designed for each stage of development, our curriculum teaches students how to observe the world around them and think for themselves. Along the way, every student develops the foundation for success in Upper School and beyond by:

  • Building strong organizational and study skills
  • Growing in confidence and independence
  • Practicing self-advocacy
  • Developing a growth mindset
  • Discovering her unique gifts and talents

The middle school girl is changing so much both physically and socially, and trying to discover where she belongs in the world. And to do that in an environment that is all-girls is incredibly helpful.

Bringing the Classroom Alive

Each grade enjoys unique traditions that deepen understanding, spark curiosity, and make learning unforgettable.

6th Grade
Anne of Green Gables Tea

After reading Anne of Green Gables in English class, sixth graders step into Anne’s world at the annual English Tea. Dressed in period-inspired attire, students gather for tea and pastries while experiencing the customs and culture of the novel firsthand. This beloved tradition deepens their understanding of the story and demonstrates how literature can be lived, not just read.

7th Grade
Medieval Fair

The seventh-grade Medieval Fair brings a year of history studies to life. Through costumes, projects, demonstrations, and presentations, students explore the people, culture, and innovations of the Middle Ages in an engaging, hands-on way. The fair transforms historical knowledge into lived experience, making the lessons of the medieval world both memorable and meaningful.

8th Grade
Most Courageous American Tournament

The Most Courageous American Competition is the capstone of the eighth-grade American history curriculum. After researching influential figures and refining their public speaking and debate skills throughout the year, students present persuasive speeches defending their chosen candidate. The competition challenges students to think deeply about courage, leadership, and the virtues that have shaped our nation’s history.
