Addison Duncan '24 accepted to Juilliard Summer theatre programs

Sophomore Addison Duncan ‘24 will spend her summer working with Juilliard faculty in both drama and musical theater programs through “Summer Performing Arts with Juilliard,” in Orlando, Florida at Windermere Preparatory School. She was accepted to each of the programs after submitting applications and audition portfolios.

Through the program, Addison will engage in workshops and lessons with two weeks in drama intensive and two weeks in a musical theater intensive. Last summer, Addison was accepted into the prestigious Interlochen Summer Arts Camp for high school students in northwest Michigan.

Addison has played many roles in Oakcrest theatre productions since she joined the school in the sixth grade. Most recently, Addison played Mary Poppins in the 2022 Upper School Spring Musical performance of Mary Poppins. She has also played Violet in The Boxcar Children, Junie B. Jones in Junie B. Jones, The Musical, Jr., and Ismene in Antigone. She also has performed in Oakcrest’s annual Shakespeare Monologue Competition, winning first place in the Middle School division in 2017 and 2018 and first place in the Upper School division in 2020.

“Addison has been a delight to work with over the past three years,” Dr. Kristin O’Malley, theatre arts director at Oakcrest, said. “Addison's greatest strengths as an actress are her humility and her desire to grow. Each of the roles that she has played in our shows and the monologues that she has prepared, call her to to adapt to perform a variety of types of characters which can be challenging because most actresses play the same types of roles, but Addison is consistently willing to work hard to step outside of her comfort zone to grow into each character.”
