Amelia Cho ‘24 wins first place at VISAA Girls Invitational Golf Tournament

Oakcrest School is pleased to congratulate Amelia Cho ‘24 on her first-place win at the First Annual Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) Girls State Invitational Golf Tournament held on May 11, 2022 at Meadowbrook Country Club in Richmond, Virginia.
Reflecting on her win, Cho said she enjoyed playing in the invitational with other young women, and that she looks forward to the state competition. The VISAA State Golf Championship will take place on Monday, May 16, 2022 at the Meadowbrook Country Club in Richmond, Virginia.
“This season, I wasn’t playing as well as I had hoped, but this event made me a lot more confident about my game,” Cho said.
Oakcrest Varsity Golf Head Coach Rachel Collins said that Cho has been a steadfast representative of Oakcrest throughout the entire season. “She was able to post a fantastic score on a tough golf course sight unseen,” Collins said. “We look forward to what she can accomplish this year at States.”
Cho added that she is grateful for the encouragement of her team and of Coach Collins. “I’m so grateful for her constant support throughout the season, making us better players and just being the best coach,” Cho said. “We’re all very close, like one, big family.”
In 2021, Cho earned fourth place at the Drive, Chip, and Putt Finals Tournament, a nationwide junior golf competition for girls and boys aged 7-15, at the Augusta National Golf Club in
Georgia. When asked about her love of the sport, Cho said that not only does she enjoy the competitive and social aspects, but she also appreciates how it has encouraged her to grow in character. “One aspect that I love about the game is how you can learn life skills such as honesty, integrity, and sportsmanship,” she said.
