Oakcrest to Offer Summer Programs for College Application Success

Oakcrest will be offering a College Essays Workshop and an SAT Prep course this summer designed to help high school girls find success in their college application process. 

In the College Essays Workshop—a one-week session running from June 14-18—rising 11th and 12th grade girls can prepare their essays for their college applications with Oakcrest School’s Director of College Counseling, Miranda Johnson. Mrs. Johnson earned a B.A. in History from Clemson University and an M.A. in Workforce Development and Education from The Ohio State University. She has eight years of experience working in higher education, including three years of experience in medical school admissions. With her years of experience in higher education admissions, she is an expert in what colleges look for in application essays. Oakcrest School’s 30-hour SAT Prep course for rising 10th through 12th grade girls will be from June 21-25 and June 28-July 2, and will be taught by an experienced test prep educator from Educational Connections, a premier provider of SAT and ACT prep. Their highly-credentialed tutors specialize in research-based strategies that help students build and strengthen their test-taking skills and tackle the SAT with confidence. Daily homework will be assigned to strengthen skills and two mock SAT tests will be administered online; one before and one after the course to track results. Oakcrest has been successfully offering in-person learning five days a week in the 2020-2021 school year, and looks forward to offering its summer programs in person as well. Programs will all follow COVID precautions and guidelines from the CDC, the Governor of Virginia, and the Virginia Council for Private Education (VCPE).
