Oakcrest Announces Fall 2020 Middle School Theatre Production

Oakcrest's Theatre Department is pleased to announce that its Middle School fall production will be "The Female Quixote," performed on November 5, 6 and 7, 2020.

The play, written by Claire Wittman, is adapted from the 1703 gothic novel of the same name by Charlotte Ramsay. The drama follows the adventures of a group of girls who take on the task of performing their own version of the novel. The girls quickly get lost in the excitement and grandeur of the fairytale of their heroine as each girl takes a turn playing the heroine in different scenes from her life. However, as the girls perform their story, they begin to discover that although adventures are exciting, the most important moments of one's life are not always found in the larger-than-life moments. Oakcrest theatre teacher Dr. Kristin O'Malley will direct this production.

Oakcrest has been closely following recommendations made within the theatre education community for rehearsals and putting on productions during this time, and will be implementing them accordingly.

The theatre arts fill a unique role in exploring and communicating the human experience. Rooted in the universal need for understanding and communicative expression, theatre enables us to explore thought, feeling, and behavior by mirroring the human condition through imitation and symbolic action. Our theatre program encourages creative thinking, experimentation, and respect for the ideas and efforts of others, fostering an environment of character development and cultural awareness.

Oakcrest strives to provide challenging and age-appropriate theatrical opportunities that encourage girls' personal, intellectual, faith, and leadership development. Performance material is selected for its potential to positively impact family and society.
