Oakcrest Prepares to Celebrate Class of 2020 Graduation

Oakcrest is happy to announce that it will be celebrating the Class of 2020 with a graduation ceremony on Friday, June 26.  

The school will present the graduation speeches, the personal faculty dedication to each senior, and senior awards.  The event will be livestreamed and recorded for those not able to attend. Sherif and Gabrielle Girgis will address the Oakcrest Class of 2020. Gabrielle Speach Girgis is a 2012 graduate of Notre Dame’s Program of Liberal Studies, Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laudeShe is currently a graduate student in the Department of Politics at Princeton University concentrating in political theory, where she is preparing her dissertation on the intellectual history of religious freedom and the continued importance of this principle in pluralist liberal democracies. Her husband, Sherif, is a Ph.D. candidate in philosophy at Princeton and a former U.S. Supreme Court clerk and Rhodes Scholar. He has co-authored two books: What Is Marriage? Man and Woman: A Defense (Encounter Books, 2012), cited by Justice Alito in United States v. Windsor; and Debating Religious Liberty and Discrimination (Oxford University Press, 2017). Sherif has spoken on moral, political, and legal issues at more than 100 lectures, conferences, and debates and has published in such academic and popular outlets as the New York Times, the Yale Law Journal, the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, the Wall Street JournalNational Review, and Commonweal

Remarks will also be shared by Julia Fischer, Valedictorian of the Class of 2020, who will be attending the University of Pennsylvania; and Salutatorian Rebecca Miller, who is headed to the Catholic University of America. They will be joined by Head of School Dr. Mary T. Ortiz, Dean of Faculty & Curriculum Elizabeth Black, Oakcrest Chaplain Fr. Marty Miller, and Oakcrest Board of Directors President Shaun Pacious. 

The members of the Class of 2020 have been accepted into colleges and universities all around the country, including  Georgetown University, the University of Virginia, The College of William & Mary, and Boston College. The graduating seniors will pursue areas of study that include linguistics, nursing, classics, marketing, engineering, computer science, and pre-dentistry.
