Parent Support Resources at Oakcrest

Oakcrest is committed to supporting parents as the primary educators of their daughters. The school does this through a variety of means, including practical talks, Fathers Club events, and our Lending Library. An abundance of valuable parent resources can also be found on the Oakcrest website.

Our Parent Support Resources page has everything mothers and fathers need to get involved in the life of the school and receive continuing education, advice, and assistance. It includes information on Oakcrest’s many programs for parents, whether it’s Adventures in Parenting talks, Family Enrichment, or the Art of Living for Women workshop. This page also features many episodes from the Oakcrest podcast channel. Whether parents want to learn more about how to determine the best college fit for their high school student, how to parent children according to their temperaments, or the effects of social media on teenagers, there’s something for everyone on the Oakcrest podcast channel. Parents can also access podcasts from the Thursday Tea & Talk series, in which Oakcrest faculty members speak on their areas of expertise. Find episodes here on the science of viruses, 19th century art, music theory, logic and rhetoric, and much more.

The Parent Support page also posts book reviews, written by Oakcrest faculty and staff. These books offer practical guidance and encouragement for moms and dads as they navigate different seasons of the parenting journey.

Parents who are looking to volunteer and get involved in the school community will find information on this page for the Oakcrest Fathers Club and the Oakcrest Parents Association. The Oakcrest Fathers Club plays a leadership role in organizing and hosting fun events for everyone to enjoy, while encouraging fathers to make friendships among themselves. The Oakcrest Parent Association (OPA) serves the school in recruiting and organizing parent volunteers for various school events and activities. OPA members lead and coordinate important functions such as monthly teas, coffees with the Head of School, faculty appreciation, and family support.

Finally, Oakcrest recognizes that parents also need to be nourished spiritually. A list of spiritual opportunities for parents can be found on the Parent Support Resources page. Parents, of course, are always invited to stop by the Oakcrest chapel for daily Mass or just for a few minutes of prayer. The school also provides time for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, spiritual direction, Mornings of Recollection for women, and a Theology for Moms class hosted by philosophy teacher Dr. Edwina Maskysm, which is open to mothers of all faiths.

By offering a variety of resources for parents, Oakcrest hopes to assist them in their noble mission of forming their daughters to be passionate, confident, empathetic and service-oriented leaders.
