Oakcrest Continues All-School Service Day Tradition

Oakcrest School held its annual All-School Service Day, an honored tradition dedicated to serving the surrounding community.

All-School Service Day takes place during Fall Spirit Week, a weeklong celebration of school spirit, healthy competition, and friendship. All Oakcrest students volunteered on campus or at charitable organizations around the Northern Virginia/DC area.

Middle school students spent time with residents at an assisted living center, worked on an outdoor service project at Riverbend Park and prepared meals at DC Central Kitchen. Upper School students spread out around the Northern Virginia area, serving meals to the homeless, assisting in preschool classrooms, making learning resources for visually impaired students, and playing instrumental music for residents at assisted living homes.

Service lies at the center of leadership and character education at Oakcrest. Students fulfill a specified number of hours serving others in their homes and communities Working with the student council, girls can initiate school-based service programs, and the school is home to the Service Initiatives Project, an initiative comprised of nine different monthly service projects organized and managed by student coordinators. This past summer, the school sent its first mission trip abroad to work with Mustard Seed Communities in Kingston, Jamaica. Oakcrest students log a total of over 9,700 service hours each year.
