Announcing the 2019-2020 Theatrical Season

Oakcrest is pleased to announce its Middle and Upper School shows for the 2019-2020 school year: Junie B. Jones Jr.: The Musical and James and the Giant Peach.

On November 1-2, the Middle School will present Junie B. Jones Jr.: The Musical, an adaptation of  Barbara Parker's beloved book series which explores the everyday ups and downs of the world of first grade. Meanwhile, Upper School students take to the stage on February 21-22 to bring Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach to life—a different kind of growing-up tale that features zany aunts, enormous fruit, and human-sized bugs.

Both shows are based on classic children's novels and evoke a strong sense of nostalgia. James and the Giant Peach, featuring music written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Dear Evan Hansen, La La Land, The Greatest Showman), will offer students a particularly exciting musical challenge.

Each year, Oakcrest's theatre department puts on one Middle School production and one Upper School production, each in a different semester. The department produces both plays and musicals, giving students the opportunity to act, sing, dance, or work on the tech crew, help with hair and makeup, and assist with costume design and set building.

Oakcrest is also excited to share that its One-Act Plays will be open to the public this year. This event, taking place on May 16, 2020, is an evening of one-act plays written, directed, and performed by Middle and Upper School students, offering them another opportunity to be involved in all aspects of theatre arts from play writing to directing.
