Oakcrest Wins PVAC Middle School Track & Field Championship

The Oakcrest Chargers are the 2019 PVAC Middle School Track & Field Champions, earning first place at championship meet at Gallaudet University on May 7 with 99 points.

Among the many highlights of the day, several students won first or second place in their events or broke a school record.

Audrey Elam (‘24) led the pack with two first-place finishes in the 100m and 200m events and a second-place finish in the 400m. Bianca Navarro (‘23)  also claimed a first-place victory in long jump. In the 4x100m relay, Teri Crnkovich (‘23),  Lily Spence (‘25), Sally Mohler (‘23) and Audrey Elam (‘23) worked together to win second place and set a new school record with a time of 55.74. Other second place finishes included Lucy Spence in 100m hurdles and Katie Kennedy (‘24) in long jump.

The championship title is a fitting conclusion to a Middle School Track & Field season that’s been full of victories and impressive accomplishments. The team placed second at the Draper Track Meet on April 29 and has had a string of students earn a top-three spot or set new school records in numerous track & field events.

Head Track & Field coach Jennifer Pruskowski is thrilled at the victory and sees it as a testament to the girls’ hard work, perseverance, and team spirit.  “It was a very close championship meet this season,” she says. “The girls learned the importance of teamwork, as the close score showed that every member, every event, every point matters, as it came down to one point out of hundreds to decide the winner. Our girls were willing to work harder, push their limits, and leave everything on the track. In this meet, talent, strategy, and teamwork won us the championship!”
