Instrumental Music Director Alexandra Baldwin Featured Guest at 25th Annual New Jersey Flute Choir Day

Oakcrest Instrumental Music Director Alexandra Baldwin was featured as the special guest artist at the 25th Annual New Jersey Flute Choir Day at Drew University on March 31.

The program included five of Alix’s original compositions for flute. One of her works, “Spirit of the Wind,” was a world premiere commissioned specifically for the 25th Annual Flute Choir Day. Alix not only wrote this piece but also conducted it at the event as it was performed by the All-FCD Flute Choir.

Alix is a flutist, harpist, and composer. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Music Composition from George Mason University, where she won the Music Department’s Most Outstanding Musician award. She has been commissioned to write music for the National Flute Association and the Brannen-Cooper Fund, among other organizations. She has been a harpist, flutist, composer and arranger for the First Light Ensemble since 2009 and for the Columbia Flute Choir since 1995. At Oakcrest, she teaches Sixth Grade Instrumental, Middle School Chamber Ensemble, Upper School Chamber Orchestra, Music Theory, and AP Music Theory, as well as serving as founder and moderator of the Harp Circle, a club for students interested in learning and performing the harp.

The Annual New Jersey Flute Choir Day, presented and hosted by the Music Department at Drew University, is an event open to Elementary, Junior High, High School, College students, and Adults who play the flute and would like to take part in playing ensemble works scored for piccolo, C flute, alto and bass flutes, and the contra bass flute.
