Spotlight on Varsity Basketball and Head Coach Annie Smith

The Varsity Basketball team is gearing up for their first scrimmage at home on Wednesday, November 20, against the Trinity Christian School Gryphons. The team returns four starters in seniors Hannah B. and Catherine S. and Sophomores Gabby B. and Elisabeth D. Starting her fifth year as Head Coach, Ms. Annie Smith explained she is most excited about playing more Virginia schools this season to earn a chance to qualify for the state tournament. “We have a good mix of returning and new players that add more dynamic to the team,” she says. 

Coach Smith and the Varsity team have a heavy game schedule ahead with three early season tournaments. The first tournament, Preseason Private School Basketball Tournament, is hosted by Perry Hall Christian School in Maryland on November 23. After Thanksgiving the team will participate in both the 25th Annual Saints Girls Invitational (December 3 & 4 at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes) and the Potomac School Tip Off on December 6 & 7. Coach Smith describes her team as very athletic and having a competitive spirit. She is excited to see where this season will take them.
