Oakcrest School Receives Extraordinary Gift To Name Future Athletic Center

On September 14, 2021 Oakcrest School received an extraordinary pledge from Mr. and Mrs. Brian McGowan of McLean, Virginia to support the completion of the construction of its beautiful new athletic facility. The new center will be named the McGowan Family Athletic Center.

“This gift shows great support for the mission and growth of the school. It is a significant addition to our campaign that will take Oakcrest’s competitive athletic programs to a whole new level. It will also help continue to attract more families who will benefit from an Oakcrest education,” said Dr. Mary T. Ortiz, Head of School. “Generosity is a virtue we try to live in all aspects of our school community and instill in every student who attends Oakcrest, and we are so grateful for Dorothy and Brian’s example that will allow more young women to benefit from an Oakcrest education.”

The gift will support the completion of Oakcrest’s future Athletic Center, which will extend from the east academic wing of Oakcrest’s main building and will include five classrooms, a regulation gymnasium that can seat over 230 spectators, as well as locker rooms and training facilities to support Oakcrest’s successful athletic program. The project is projected to be completed by October of 2022.
 
Brian and Dorothy are known for their philanthropy throughout the region having supported many school and community endeavors. They are active parishioners at St. Luke Catholic Church in McLean, Virginia and are strong advocates for Catholic education. When asked why they are making this extraordinary gift to Oakcrest school they replied, “The key motivation behind our giving to Oakcrest School is our strong belief in the value and importance of Catholic education, with specific focus on supporting the development of current and future generations of young women.”
