Senior Signs to Play Lacrosse with Randolph-Macon College

On May 4, in front of Oakcrest faculty, students, and coaches, senior Ellen Stark officially signed to play lacrosse next year with Randolph-Macon College, an NCAA Division III school. Ellen will play in the position of goalie for the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets.

During the official signing ceremony, Head of School Dr. Mary T. Ortiz shared that “Athletics is an essential part of the Oakcrest experience, with over 85% of our students participating on a sports team or in a fitness class offered by the athletic department.  Ellen has taken her passion of playing Lacrosse to the fullest.”

Assistant Athletic Director Sarah Robertson praised Ellen’s work ethic, tenacity, and dedication. “The work you have done after school and on the weekends, day in and day out, does not go unnoticed,” she said. “Hard work truly pays off, and through your passion, you have made your dream a reality.”

Ellen is currently the goalie on Oakcrest’s Varsity lacrosse team. She has been playing the sport since she was in fourth grade. Her inspiration to take up the game came when she and her family happened to drive past a lacrosse store one day. Ellen knew nothing about lacrosse at the time, but seeing the store sparked her curiosity. After learning about what lacrosse was, she decided to try it, fell in love, and has been out on the field ever since.

The decision to sign with Randolph-Macon College came easily to Ellen, because she realized that it was the best place for her to have an enriching, well-balanced education. “I would be able to experience everything I wanted to do in college; playing lacrosse, joining a sorority, traveling abroad, and just having a well-rounded college experience,” she explains. “I also knew that I wanted to go to Randolph-Macon after my official visit in February 2020. My new coach is super kind, energetic, and passionate about playing lacrosse. I loved the team dynamic and the campus, and I knew that I was in the right place.”

While she’ll miss her current classmates and teammates, Ellen is looking forward to a new season and a new adventure next year. “I am so excited to get on campus and get to know my new team next year!” she says. “I have already started talking to other commits from my class and it will be so nice to start in the fall with a group of friends.”
