Upper School Will Take Antigone to the Stage

The Oakcrest Theatre Department is pleased to announce that this year's spring Upper School Theatre Production will be Antigone, to be performed at Oakcrest on February 19 at 7:30 pm and February 20 at 11:00 am and 7:30 pm.

The show is based on the play written by Sophocles and is translated by Ian Johnston. In this classic Greek tragedy, Antigone, the daughter of Oedipus, wishes to bury her dead brother Polyneices but is forbidden to do so by the King of Thebes. Driven by a fierce sense of justice and the conviction that the gods are on her side, Antigone defies the order and a string of tragic events ensues.

Performances of Antigone will have limited in-person seating and will all be livestreamed and will include a pre-performance talk to provide context and background.

Oakcrest strives to provide challenging and age-appropriate theatrical opportunities that encourage girls' personal, intellectual, character, faith and leadership development. Performance material is selected for its potential to positively impact family and society.
