Giving to Oakcrest
Thanks to generous benefactors like you, Oakcrest is able to increase its ability to provide an education that emphasizes leadership, character and excellence geared to the 21st century. The success of Oakcrest depends on the participation of our entire school community: students, parents, grandparents, alumnae parents, alumnae and benefactors. There are many ways to contribute financially to Oakcrest:
- By making a contribution online to the Oakcrest Fund. Your gift has an immediate impact on students by enhancing academic offerings and co-curricular activities as well as improving the athletic program (e.g. last year we added a swim team in addition to cross country, soccer, track and field, basketball, softball, and tennis). Please read below for a full description of all of the different ways to contribute.
- By being a volunteer in the many events and activities for students and parents sponsored by the school or the Oakcrest Parent Association. Please consider offering your time for one or more of these activities by exploring Volunteer Opportunities.
If you have any questions, please contact Beth Ann Newton, Director of Development, by telephone at 703-790-5450 or email at development@oakcrest.org.
Oakcrest Fund
The Oakcrest Fund is one of the most powerful vehicles through which parents, alumnae, alumnae parents and friends can invest in the young women of Oakcrest. The cost of providing an education which focuses on leadership, character development, and excellence in education as well as parent involvement goes beyond the tuition paid by parents. Oakcrest relies on the gifts from the Oakcrest Fund to provide additional income for the operating budget which has a direct impact on the programs offered to students and the professional development of our teachers. Donations from current parents are very important as a reflection of their support for the school and its students. Gifts to the Oakcrest Fund can be made at any time during the year in the following ways:
- Checks payable to Oakcrest School.
- By submitting a donation online by clicking on "Make a Gift."
Oakcrest Events
The Oakcrest Gala and Auction is the premier Development event of the year attended by parents, alumnae, friends, faculty and staff. Usually held in the early fall, the Oakcrest Gala and Auction features an evening of cocktails and hors d'eouvres, a musical revue and a live auction, followed by a beautifully catered dinner and dancing outside. The Oakcrest Gala and Auction is a great community event.
All proceeds from the Oakcrest Gala and Auction directly benefit and enhance the academic programs of the school, creating an environment where girls make a difference.
This year's Annual Gala and Auction was held on Saturday, October 13. A record total of over $170,000 was raised in support of our school thanks to our parent chair and auctioneer for this year, Brendy Esmond.
The Patrons of the Arts Evening offers the opportunity to provide for the growth and development of our fine arts program by supporting the long-loved tradition of the Oakcrest School Shows. The annual Middle School Show in the fall and the Upper School Show in the spring are two of the many opportunities Oakcrest provides for students to express their artistic talents in unique and original productions, and we are grateful for the financial support of our parents, alumnae, friends, and benefactors. The Patron of the Arts evenings take place on opening night, and all sponsor levels enjoy a lovely cocktail-buffet before being escorted to their reserved, priority seating in the Theatre just before the production begins. Many thanks to our chairs and generous donors for making these evenings such a success!

A Gift of Stock
Gifts of stock offer a tax benefit in two ways. First, the donor avoids paying capital gains tax on the increased value of the stock. Second, the donor can take a tax deduction for the full market value of the stock on the date of the gift. For example, if a donor gives one share of stock to Oakcrest that was purchased for $100 in 1990 and is valued at $175 today, the donor will avoid paying any tax on the $75 gain from the original investment and, further, he is allowed to claim a tax-deductible gift of $175.
You may make a gift of stock by asking your stock broker to transfer the number of shares you would like to donate to Oakcrest. For further information on how to donate stock, please call Beth Ann Newton, Director of Development, at 703-790-5450 or email her at development@oakcrest.org.
