Middle School Overview

At Oakcrest, the quest for personal and academic excellence begins in Middle School, where students acquire a solid foundation in the knowledge base of each subject area, master effective study skills and learn to take risks and rise to a challenge in a supportive environment. Opportunities for analytical and critical thinking, class discussions, problem solving and hands-on projects foster the intellectual development of Middle School students while engaging them in their education. The Middle School curriculum is comprised of courses in art, English, foreign language, history, mathematics, music, science, technology and theology. Seventh and eighth grade foreign language courses and eighth grade Algebra I are taught at the Upper School level, earn Upper School credit, and count toward graduation requirements. Mini-courses in a variety of areas from rocketry to film editing to dance allow students to explore interests beyond the core curriculum.
A qualified faculty with a student-centered approach to education focus course content and instruction on the developmental needs of Middle School students, engaging them in the learning process, stimulating their interest and creativity, and fostering each student’s growth in character and leadership. Oakcrest’s Advisory and Character Development programs further extend students’ engagement in their own development in both their Middle School and Upper School years, offering young women the opportunity for an integrated intellectual and personal development as they transition to young adulthood.
