Oakcrest Student Accepted to U.S. State Department's National Security Language Initiative for Youth 2012

Rachel Waldon has been accepted to the prestigious National Security Language Initiative for Youth 2012 program with the State Department! She will be traveling to Russia to learn Russian this summer, representing the United States.

The National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) program is a State Department sponsored opportunity for students to study less commonly taught languages, especially those needed in a global setting for future international relations, in either summer or academic year programs. Other countries offered are Russia, Turkey, Tajikistan, India, China, Taiwan, Korea, Morocco, Egypt and Jordan. The official website is: http://www.nsliforyouth.org/ .

The process was very competitive, with nearly 3000 applications. Rachel was not only accepted, but she was also given her first choice of languages/travel. Congratulations, Rachel!
