  • Upper School Spanish Teacher and Language Department Chair

    Oakcrest School, an independent school for girls grades 6-12 in McLean, VA, seeks a full-time, experienced, dynamic Upper School Spanish Teacher and Language Department Chair to start working in August 2013. Qualified applicants will meet the following criteria:

    Upper School Spanish Teacher

    • Master’s/MEd or PhD (preferred)
    • Native or near-native Spanish proficiency (required)
    • Minimum of 6 years teaching experience
    • Ability to teach a range of Spanish classes, from Spanish 1 through AP Spanish Language/Literature
    • Experience with the Communicative Approach required
    • Participation in Upper School life in meaningful ways outside the classroom (coaching, leading extracurriculars, supervisions, etc.)

    Language Chair

    • Prior administrative experience as a department chair or curricular leader required
    • Ability to recruit, evaluate, mentor and supervise language teachers
    • Budget management experience required
    • Interest in reviewing, developing, and overseeing language curriculum
    • Interest in continuing the department’s strong tradition of engagement in local, regional and national professional development in the language field via different organizations required
    • Must be current with national curricular initiatives and ACTFL guidelines, and embrace the integration of technology and innovation in teaching methods.
    • Department heads collaborate with the Division Head and Academic Dean on student issues, work with Admissions on student testing and placement and teach four sections
    • Serve as member of Department Head team
